Johnson City, Tenn. -- UVa-Wise football coach Shawn Austin is making good progress in his recovery from a bad car accident that happened just north of Big Stone Gap, Va. on January 26. Big Stone Gap, Va. -- On his way home on Saturday night, UVa-Wise assistant football coach Shawn Austin was unfortunately involved in a car accident a couple miles north of Big Stone Gap on Route 23. The Cavs' gridiron coach came through the incident with some injuries and is currently in stable condition at Holston Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. More»

UVa-Wise Last Team Left out of NAIA Championship Series Playoffs

After Union College upset Georgetown, UVa-Wise saw its NAIA football Championship Series Playoff dream start to fade and evaporated fully with the final national rankings and pairing announced early afternoon on Sunday.
The Cavs lost the Mid-South East automatic bid due to the Union upset which gave the Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands the bid due to the overtime defeat on November 3rd.
UVa-Wise held steady at 14th in the final regular season poll, one spot shy of gaining an at-large berth into the post season.
