WEATHER FORCES CHANGE

Ivan Moving Cavs to Thursday Night
September 14, 2004

WISE, VA - Saturday's football game between UVa-Wise and Mars Hill College has been moved ahead a couple of days because of the potential threat of heavy rain resulting from yet another hurricane projected to strike the southeastern U.S.

The non-conference football game originally scheduled for Saturday, now will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, at Meares Stadium in Mars Hill, N.C.

Hurricane Ivan, which is advancing toward the Gulf Coast and is projected to make land fall in the U.S. by mid-week, could drop several inches of rain on Mars Hill Saturday, according to latest weather forecasts.

The storm had dipped to a Category 4 Tuesday morning with a sustained wind 140 mph after reaching Category 5 strength at 160 mph on Monday.

The Cavaliers (2-1 overall) are coming off an impressive 30-6 win over Mid-South Conference rival Cumberland University last Saturday and are riding a modest two-game win streak.

Meanwhile, Mars Hill, a member of the South Atlantic Conference, had an impressive outing of its own last week. The Lions (2-0 overall) devoured St. Augustine's College 63-12 in a non-conference road game played in Raleigh, N.C.

Thursday's game can be heard via tape-delay Saturday at 7 p.m. on WAXM 93.5 FM in Norton. Brian Wills and Bill Smith will provide the play-by-play coverage.

Cavs Notes: Sporting a 2-1 record, the Highland Cavaliers received two votes for this week's (Sept. 14) NAIA Top 25. Four Mid-South Conference teams made this week's list.
