CAVS MILESTONE NEARS
Smith Running Toward 1,000
November 3, 2004
WISE, VA - UVa-Wise running back Larry Smith is looking to become only the second Highland Cavalier to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.
Smith is just 151 yards shy of the milestone, having ran for 849 yards in 184 carries in nine games this season. The junior from Fredericksburg is averaging 94.3 yards a game and 4.1 per carry and has eight touchdowns.
Smith set a career high last week when he sprinted for 227 yards in the 52-45 win over Campbellsville University.
The last Cavalier to rush for at least 1,000 yards in a season was UVa-Wise Hall of Famer, Greg Thomas, who set a school record with 1,438 yards in 1996. The Cavaliers were 10-1 that year.
