WISE, Va. – The leading pass catcher at Science Hill High School over the past two seasons will be running routes on the artificial turf of Carl Smith Stadium this fall as a member of the UVa-Wise Highland Cavaliers.

UVa-Wise head coach Bruce Wasem announced this week that Science Hill’s Hunter Thomas has agreed to join the Cavaliers for the next four years.

Thomas was the Hilltoppers most valuable offensive player this past season and was the recipient of the Plowboy Farmer Most Valuable Player award. The Johnson City native also was voted first team all-conference as a punt and kick returner. Thomas was selected to the conference’s second team as a receiver.

The son of Susan and Tommy Thomas of Johnson City, Tenn., Thomas is a three-sport letterman at Science Hill, excelling also in baseball and basketball.

FOOTBALL NOTES: The Cavaliers kickoff the 2005 season Aug. 27 on the road at non-conference foe North Greenville College in Tigerville, S.C. UVa-Wise, which was 3-8 in 2004, starts the season with three consecutive games outside of the Mid-South Conference before getting into league play Sept. 24 at Cumberland (Tenn.) University.
