Milligan Takes Cavalier Men’s Golf Invitational

Kingsport, TN – Milligan College took the men’s golf Cavalier Invitational completed this afternoon at Ridgefields Country Club. Milligan won the nine-team field by 12 strokes in the two-day event over Tennessee Wesleyan and host UVa-Wise. Jeremy Benton of Tennessee Wesleyan claimed the top individual award with a 142 score.

The Buffaloes won the Invitational with a tally of 613 including a top round of 301 on Monday. Tennessee Wesleyan was second (625) and had the best team score on Tuesday of 309. UVa-Wise's top team placed third with a 630 and shot a 310 second day. The rest of the field were Union (635), Bluefield (647), King College (653), Montreat (659), UVa-Wise White (730) and Virginia Intermont (702).

Benton won the top individual award by totaling a 142 final score and event best round of 68 on Tuesday. Eric Wyrick of Union was second (146) with Jared Taylor of Bluefield (148) and Aaron Jessee and Ryan Morris from Milligan finished fourth (151) and fifth (152).

UVa-Wise's John Blake Graham finished one stroke from placing in the top five individuals. Graham shot rounds of 79 and 75 for a 154 to take sixth. Brad Phillips and Shane McDavid joined Graham in the top 10 at seventh (156) and tied for ninth (158). Bryan Bentley and Ryan Robbins both tied for 18th place to round out the Cavs top five golfers with scores of 163.

Patrick King led the UVa-Wise White team with a 165. Erik Blevins was right behind him at 166 while Chris Sumner (181), Tyler Herron (188) and Luke Layne (209) rounded out the Cavs participants for the invitational.

UVa-Wise will now be off for two weeks before playing at the Appalachian Athletic Conference/NAIA Region XII Championships in Richmond, Kentucky on April 17-19.
