Cavs Start 7 th at AAC/NAIA Region XII Golf Championships

London, Ky. – On a cold first day of the Appalachian Athletic Conference/NAIA Region XII golf championships, UVa-Wise started the event seventh of the 11 team field. John Blake Graham led the Highland Cavaliers tied for 16 th after two rounds.
UVa-Wise shot identicals 322 rounds for its 644 score. Tennessee Wesleyan, who won last week’s Cavalier Invitational, holds a 19 stroke lead with a 306 over Covenant’s 625. Milligan and Bluefield are third (631) and fourth (633). King and Union are within striking distance for UVa-Wise to catch as the two teams have totals of 639 and 642.
Graham hit a 159 to tie for 16 th on the opening day. Bryan Bentley was just one stroke behind him at 160. Evan Sturgill and Rhyne Hammitt complete the top four Cavs’ golfers at 162 and 163. Matt Faircloth rounded out the team at 175.
Tennessee Wesleyan’s Tyler Smith and Casey Flenniken lead the individual standings at 145 and 149.
The championships will finish with two more rounds on Tuesday, April 15th.
