UVa-Wise Shoots Top Team Total, Move up to 6th in AAC/NAIA Region Championships

London, Ky. – John Blake Graham led the charge as the UVa-Wise golf team posted the best team total in the final round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference/NAIA Region XII Championships. The Highland Cavaliers recorded a 305 for the day and moved up a spot in the final standings to sixth, just five strokes from third.

Tennessee Wesleyan held on to capture the team overall title with a 912 team score, 27 strokes in front of Covenant College’s 939. The third through fifth place teams of Milligan, King and Bluefield were tightly compacted with tallies of 945, 946 and 948. Tennessee Wesleyan’s Tyler Smith and Casey Flenniken remained in the top two spots with 218 and 221 stroke totals.

Graham moved up from being tied in 18th to sole possession of eighth with a round of 73, tied for the second best of the day. Evan Sturgill had a great day as well by shooting 76 to move into a tie for 16th place (238) with teammate Bryan Bentley.

Rhyne Hammitt was not far behind in 21st place after hitting a 78 for a 921 score. Matt Faircloth completed the five team members in 41st (265).
