Cavs Golfers Open Spring Golf Against DII Teams at Tusculum

Greeneville, Tenn. – The UVa-Wise golfers started it 2008 spring season against some tough NCAA Division II competition at the Tusculum Invitational. The Highland Cavaliers had a tough time in the event with Bryan Bentley having the best performance of a 76 in the weather shortened event.
UVa-Wise shot a 325 team score to place 18 th in the field of teams. A quality NAIA team, Shorter College captured the title with a +4 tally of 288. Host Tusculum and Grand Valley State tied for second three strokes back at 291 (+7).
Bentley fired a 76 to pace the Cavs players. Rhyne Hammitt was next with an 81 while three others, John Blake Graham, Matt Faircloth and Evan Sturgill recorded a score of 84. Jacob Ritchie wrapped up the UVa-Wise golfers with a 99.
UVa-Wise will head further south next weekend when it plays in the Geico Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan in Savannah, Ga. from Mach 13-15.
