Cavs Golfers Tie for First but Lose on Tiebreaker at Virginia Intermont

Bristol, VA – The University of Virginia’s College at Wise men’s golf team tied for the team championship of the Virginia Intermont College Fall Invitational but finished second due to the tiebreaker.
The Cavs led the nine team field after the first day with a score of 304 to lead by six strokes over Union College. The second day proved a different result as UVa-Wise fired a 305 for the second best score of the impressive 295 off the clubs of the Brevard College team who tied the Cavs for the best overall team score at 609. Brevard earned the championship by virtue of the tiebreaker. Union was third with a 618, nine strokes behind the top two teams.
Brad Phillips led the team guided by new head coach Leigh Evans. Phillips posted a 151 for the two-day event including a 74 on the first day for seventh place. One shot behind Phillips, Patrick King hit a 74 and 78 for a 152 to tie for eighth place. Eli Norris and Bryan Brantley were directly behind the top pair with a 153 and 154 while Ryan Robbins completed the invitational 21 st with a 159.
The fall season will wrap up at the Morehead State Invitational on October 11 th and 12 th.
