UVa-Wise Earns Third AAC Softball Title in a Row without Playing
April 28, 2006
The Lady Cavs earned its third Appalachian Athletic Conference softball title in a row and fourth in five years without play on Friday. King College was able to split a makeup twinbill against Tennessee Wesleyan to give UVa-Wise a share of the regular season league title.
The doubleheader split means both UVa-Wise and Tennessee Wesleyan (20-14) end the AAC slate with identical 14-2 records. The co-champion Lady Cavs (29-13) have now won the past three AAC titles, missed the 2003 crown after taking it in 2002 as well.
In the AAC tournament next week, the Lady Bulldogs will be the #1 seed while the Lady Cavs will be second. UVa-Wise and Tennessee Wesleyan split two games in Wise. The Lady Cavs get the lesser placing due to the fact of splitting two games at #4 Milligan for its other league loss while the Lady Bulldogs dropped only the second game at #3 King on Friday.
The AAC tournament will be on Wednesday, May 3rd and run through Friday, May 5th in Bristol, TN.
