Wise, VA -- The Lady Cavs used a late inning three-run rally to seal the softball twinbill sweep on Thursday afternoon. UVa-Wise prevailed 3-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Dani Benton before plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth for a comeback 4-3 victory over Georgetown College.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth of the second game, Britney Lawson legged out a triple to left centerfield to start the at bat. Two batters later, Shelley Newton singled up the middle to plate Lawson. Krystal Showers lined her own single to center for the second runner. Mary Wilson made it three hits in a row when her liner snuck past the Georgetown (16-14) second baseman to score Newton to tie the contest, 3-3. Alicia King brought in what would be the winning run by grounding out to second base to plate Showers for the 4-3 lead. Mallory Mazur (4-5) fanned the final Lady Tiger batter looking to complete the game.

In the opener, Benton (9-4) allowed three hits, struck out three and did not allow a run until a botched rundown gave the visitors their lone score in the top of the seventh. The senior pitcher has now allowed only one run in 14 innings in the past two days. UVa-Wise (17-11) posted all of its runs in the bottom of the third. Sarah Frazier and Britney Lawson led off the trip to the plate with singles. After one out, Shelley Newton laced a run-scoring single. Krystal Showers followed with an rbi ground out for the second run. The third Lady Cav run came on a Lady Tiger error for a 3-0 score after three frames.

Wilson led the Lady Cavs at the plate with three hits, a double and two runs batted in. Lawson, Benton and Newton all posted two hits apiece with Lawson having a triple and Benton a double. King, Frazier and Showers had one hit.

UVa-Wise will be off until hosting Bluefield College in its next Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
