Wise, VA -- Mallory Mazur was dominate on the mound to help UVa-Wise take a pair of softball games from Pikeville College. Freshman Mazur won game one in relief, 3-2, before fanning seven batters in four frames for an identical, 3-2 victory in the latter contest over the Lady Bears.

UVa-Wise improved to 19-11 behind the timely hitting and Mazur's mound work. Pikeville dropped to 16-18 on the year.

Mazur pitched six innings in the two games where she allowed only one hit, walked one batter and struck out 11 Lady Bears for two wins to go to 6-5 on the season. At the plate, Krystal Showers went three for six with a triple, two doubles and two rbi. Mary Wilson added three hits of her own with a double and two rbi while Britney Lawson had three singles and two runs scored. Alicia King sliced a two-bagger in the opener.

In game one, the Lady Cavs plated two scores in the bottom of the sixth for their comeback victory. With two outs, Shelley Newton singled up the middle and came home on Showers' triple down in the right field corner. Wilson followed with a double to right center to score Showers with the game-winning run. Mazur shut down Pikeville in the top of the seventh including two strikeouts to complete the 3-2 win.

UVa-Wise jumped out early in the second contest. In the bottom of the first, Lawson singled, moved to second on a sacrifice and went to third on a ground out. Showers stepped to the plate and lined an rbi double to right center. Wilson followed with a run-scoring single for a 2-0 lead. Showers led off the third with her second double and scored on a King ground out to increase the lead to 3-0.

Mazur gave up one infield single and struck out seven Pikeville batters over the first four innings. Amanda Wheeler relieved her and allowed single runs in the fifth and another in the top of the seventh before she snatched a hot liner up the middle and threw to first to complete the 3-2 win for the save.

UVa-Wise returns to Appalachian Athletic Conference action on Tuesday afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. twinbill at Milligan College.
