Cleveland, TN – The Spring Break week contests did not start out well for UVA-Wise on Saturday. The Lady Cavs were swept by the Lady Flames, 10-5 and then 12-2 in five innings.

For UVA-Wise (2-11), Sarah Frazier (Big Stone Gap, VA) produced three hits on the day. Britney Lawson ( Duffield, VA) and Shelley Newton (Chesapeake, VA) both had two hits with a home run and three runs batted in apiece. Mary Wilson (Virginia Beach, VA), Alicia King (Castlewood, VA) and Bobbi Mihelarakis ( Sterling, VA) each lined two singles. Tori Flint (Charlottesville, VA), Christine Cantone (Virginia Beach, VA) and Amber Quillen (Kingsport, TN) accounted for the other three hits.

Lee (17-5) pounced on UVA-Wise in the bottom of the first with eight runs. The score remained 8-0 until the top of the third. The Lady Cavs plated five runs when Lawson and Newton poked a three-run and two-run homers to cut it to 8-5. The Lady Flames added a pair in the bottom of the fourth which would be the final score of 10-5.

The nationally-ranked Lady Flames caught fire again in the second contest. The home team pushed across three scores in the first. Mihelarakis lined a two-run single to make it 3-2 but the Lady Cavs would get no closer.

Lee scored four times in the bottom of the second, once in the third and four more in the fourth before holding UVA-Wise scoreless in the fifth for the 12-2 victory.

The Lady Cavs will now head for three-straight days of contests in the Savannah College of Art & Design Smash Hit event from Sunday through Tuesday.
