UVA-Wise’s King and Wheeler Sims Sweeps AAC Softball Weekly Awards

Wise, VA – UVA-Wise swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference softball weekly awards. Alicia King was selected the Player of the Week while Amanda Wheeler Sims earned the Pitcher of the Week announced on Monday.
The veteran duo helped the Lady Cavaliers to a 3-1 week with a sweep of Union College before splitting a twinbill against Virginia Intermont. The team leads the AAC with a 5-1 league mark while holding a 15-14 record on the year.
King had the hot bat of the week. She laced two hits in each of the team’s four games for a .533 average on eight hits in 15 at bats. The senior from Castlewood, VA had a solo homer, her first of the year, in the first game vs. Union while adding a rbi triple in the finale against Virginia Intermont. The first baseman scored four runs and drove in three tallies. King has raised her season average to .327 in 52 at bats with 10 rbi.
Jonesborough , TN ’s Wheeler Sims went 2-0 on the week on the mound where she did not allow an earned run in 15 innings of work. The junior scattered 10 hits, three runs and one walk while striking out three in a 4-3 eight innings victory over Union College. She followed with a complete game four-hit outing while fanning five and walking just one batter in an 8-1 win over Virginia Intermont. Wheeler Sims leads UVA-Wise with an 8-5 record over 83.2 innings with 12 complete games.
The Lady Cavs will travel for a pair of games against their AAC rival Tennesee Wesleyan starting at 2:00 p.m. April 3 rd.
