April 9, 2007

Wise, VA – For the second time in three weeks, UVA-Wise freshman pitcher Lauren Snead put together another solid week to earn Appalachian Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. Snead went 2-0 with a 0.70 earned run average over 16 1/3 innings in three appearances.

The pitcher pitched nine of 14 innings last Thursday at home against Emory & Henry. She came on in the second inning for starter Amanda Wheeler Sims. Snead went 5 1/3 innings where she allowed just one hit, a double, walked two and struck out six in the combined shutout, 4-0.

In the second game against the Wasps, the Lord Botetourt High product went the first four frames where she allowed an earned run and five hits to fan one in a no decision before Tori Flint came on for the final two innings in the 4-1 UVA-Wise win.

Snead has an 8-6 record, 3.04 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 101 1/3 innings over 20 appearances.

UVA-Wise will next host NCAA DII’s University of Charleston on Tuesday afternoon starting at 3:00 p.m. at Lady Cavs Field.
