GAME 2 BOXSCORE

Montreat, N.C. – Lauren Snead fired a two-hitter and the UVa-Wise softball team posted 18 runs to sweep Montreat College in an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader. Snead allowed two singles in the Lady Cavs 8-0 five inning opener before the team scored five runs in the fourth as part of a 10-4 late contest.

Snead captured both mound victories as she allowed just one earned run in nine innings of work while striking out 14. Leadoff hitter Maddi Ridenour paced the UVa-Wise (7-7/3-1 AAC) 22 hit attack by going four of eight with four runs and two rbi. Shelley Newton belted a home run as part of three hits while both Bobbi Mihelarakis and Hannah Ellis added three singles apiece with three and two rbi. Britney Lawson laced a triple and single. Christine Cantone and Sarah Frazier lined two singles apiece.

Game 1

The Lady Cavs took control early by scoring in each of the first three frames. Ridenour started off the game by walking, stealing second and later scoring on a Mary Wilson single. Mihelarakis, who singled, came around to score on a wild pitch for a 2-0 tally.

UVa-Wise received a two-run hit from Mihelarakis and a run-scoring single from Cantone as part of a four-run second. The visitors added two more runs in the third to lead 8-0.

Snead allowed just a single in the bottom of the first and fourth innings on her way to the shutout.

Game 2

Tied 2-2, UVa-Wise exploded for five runs in the fourth to blow open the game. Ridenour, Newton, Lawson and Ellis drove in runs with hits while Mihelarakis had a run-producing ground out to go in front 7-2.

UVa-Wise extended the difference to 9-2 when Lawson tripled home Cantone, who singled, and would score herself on an Ellis single. Newton homered in the top of the seventh before Montreat (5-19/1-3 AAC) managed just two runs in the home seventh for the 10-4 final.

Snead picked up the late victory by allowing just one earned run and four hits with six strikeouts over the final four innings.
