Lauren Snead (Troutville, Va.) continued her solid pitching. She gave up one hit and one run in the opener to improve to 8-6 on the year.

Game 1

After each team scored once in the second, the Lady Cavs’ Maddi Ridenour (Suffolk, Va.) led off the fifth with a walk, stole second and scored on a Newton single. Wilson and Christine Cantone (Va. Beach, Va.) singled before both came home on a Lawson double for a 4-1 score.

The visitors added two more tallies in the sixth and the biggest at bat of the day of six runs was capped by Wilson’s three-run home run in the top of the seventh for what would be the 12-1 final.

Bobbi Mihelarakis (Sterling, Va.) sliced a double to round out a 17-hit attack against Lees-McRae (19-19) in the contest.

Game 2

The Lady Bobcats tripled its first game output with a trio of runs in the home first. The home team took advantage of two Lady Cavs’ errors as two of the three runs were unearned against Megan McCoy (Va. Beach, Va.), the starting hurler.

Lawson put UVa-Wise on the board with her team-leading seventh homer run, a solo shot, to make it 3-1. The score remained unchanged until the top of the fifth. Ridenour singled and stole second before pulling the Lady Cavs within a run when Newton doubled her home.

Lees-McRae was able to hold UVa-Wise scoreless over the its final two turns at the plate for the 3-2 final.

The Lady Cavs will be off Thursday until hosting a second NCAA Division II foe in the University of Charleston starting at 3:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The team rescheduled its NAIA Region XII/AAC championship ring ceremony that was postponed from the previous Friday.
