Cantone Perfect Day Earns Her AAC Softball Player of the Week

Wise, Va. – After a perfect pair of games last Tuesday, UVa-Wise’s Christine Cantone picked up her first Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week award. The sophomore went five for five with a three-run home run against the University of the Cumberlands.
Cantone (Va. Beach, Va./Tallwood HS) went two for two with a run and a walk in the first game as the Lady Cavs (25-15) fell 3-1. The second-year player added the three-run home run, two singles and a walk with two runs and four rbi in a 12-0 second game victory.
The second baseman holds a .297 season average (30 of 101) with four doubles, one homer and 18 rbi.
Cantone and the UVa-Wise softball team will open its drive for a fifth-straight AAC title on Wednesday afternoon, April 30th at 5:00 p.m. versus Virginia Intermont. The league tournament will be held at Whitetop Creek Park in Bristol, Tenn.
