Maupin Signs to Join Lady Cavs Softball

Wise, Va. – The UVa-Wise softball team welcomed a new future Lady Cavaliers player to the program with the signing of Lord Botetourt’s Sara Maupin.

The four-time defending Appalachian Athletic Conference champions split their season opener with NCAA Division II Tusculum last Sunday. Maupin will join former teammate Lauren Snead on Lady Cavs’ head coach Tori Raby-Gentry, who has guided the squad to two NAIA national championships appearances in three seasons.

The utility infielder/pitcher posted a quality season a year ago. In 2007, Maupin hit .385 while scoring 17 times and driving in 14 runs.

“Sara can play anywhere on the infield, she has caught, she also brings in another option on the mound,” tell coach Raby-Gentry. “Sara has a solid bat and will be a solid fit in our program.”
