March 17, 2008
Wise, Va. – In just three series, Maddi Ridenour has came to the UVa-Wise campus and started to take over as a solid leadoff hitter in the softball lineup. The freshman outfielder earned her first collegiate honors today as the Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
The centerfielder went four for eight with two runs scored and two runs batted in as the Lady Cavs (3-3) split a Sunday doubleheader against the Lady Bobcats of Lees-McRae.
In the first contest, the Suffolk, Va. native lined three hits in four at bats with a run-scoring triple but the Lady Cavs fell 5-2. For the late affair, the Nansemond River grad added a rbi single in an 8-3 UVa-Wise victory.
Over the Lady Cavs first six games, Ridenour leads the team with a .500 batting average (11 for 22) with four runs scored, a triple and three stolen bases.
She will patrol center field for a fourth twinbill on Tuesday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m. in the AAC home opener against Virginia Intermont.
