Wise, Va. – Freshman Maddi Ridenour continues to lead off the UVa-Wise softball lineup and picked up her second Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors released today. The centerfielder lined 18 hits in 36 at bats and scored 18 times to help the Lady Cavs go 6-2 on the week.
UVa-Wise (11-9) has penciled in Ridenour (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) for the top spot in the order in all 20 contests. The speedy outfielder had two doubles in those 18 hits in eight contests last week. She included a four-hit, four run and two stolen base second game at Union College in an 11-8 victory.
For the week, Ridenour not only batted .500 (18 of 36) but also scored 18 runs, hit two doubles, drove in three runs and stole 15 bases in 16 attempts.
On the year, the first-year player is hitting a team-best .462 (30 of 65), two doubles, a triple and five rbi. Maddi has swiped 20 bases, already just four away from the UVa-Wise single season record.
