Wheeler Sims & Lawson Picked AAC Softball Players of the Week

Wise, Va. – The two parts of the UVa-Wise softball team, pitcher Amanda Wheeler Sims and outfielder Britney Lawson, have provided the punch for two early season splits but swept the Appalachian Athletic Conference Players of the Week honors.
AAC Pitcher of the Week Wheeler Sims earned both mound victories for the Lady Cavs (2-2) on the year . She fired a three-hitter in a 3-0 win at Tusculum and followed it with a victory at Pikeville. In the two appearances, Wheeler Sims recorded a 1.75 earned run average over 12 innings of work.
Lawson had the offensive punch for UVa-Wise to earn the AAC Player of the Week. The junior left fielder posted seven hits in 15 at bats with two doubles, two triples, two home runs and five rbi. Lawson had at least one extra base hit in all four games played. Against Tusculum, Britney had a triple in the opener and a double and home run in the late game. At Pikeville, she doubled in the first contest and tripled and homered in the late affair.
The Lady Cavs look to resume their season in a makeup home doubleheader against Lees-McRae Sunday afternoon starting at 4:00 p.m.
