Cavs Tennis Post Two Victories Over Bears

Pikeville, KY – The Highland Cavaliers posted two tennis victories over the Bears Sunday in convincing fashion. The University of Virginia’s College at Wise women took care of Pikeville College by a 9-0 tally and the men eased past the home team 8-1.

Laura King and Krista Jenkins won the top two singles matches in straight sets while Davina Dishner and Autumn Lauzon won the top double bout. The other four singles and two doubles matches were defaulted by Pikeville as UVa-Wise improved to 3-3 on the season.

The Bears men were undermanned as well. Pikeville took the only doubles match played 8-3. Henning Kuich, Chris Kostic and Daniel Robinson won the top three singles matches in straight sets for the Cavs. UVa-Wise picked up three singles and two doubles defaulted wins for the squad’s first win of the year to go to 1-2.

The men will next host Emory & Henry College Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Both teams will then be at Virginia Intermont next Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
