Union Shuts out UVA-Wise Men’s Tennis

Wise, VA – One of the top teams in the region, Union College shut out the UVA-Wise men’s tennis squad on Saturday afternoon, 9-0.
The Bulldogs remained perfect in the Appalachian Athletic Conference at 4-0 and 11-3 on the year while the Highland Cavaliers dropped to 0-2 in the league and 1-5 overall.
Top UVA-Wise singles player Henning Kuich ( Hamburg, Germany) put up a tough battle against one of the AAC’s best in Anthony Hill, succumbing in straight sets 4-6 and 3-6. Kuich teamed with Derick Wood at the top doubles and fought to a 4-8 defeat to Hill and Ivan Mardones.
The Cavs will next host the defending AAC champs Virginia Intermont Cobras on Tuesday afternoon starting at 3:00 p.m.
