Kuich and Wood Play Tough but Cavs Fall to Defending AAC Champs VI

Wise, VA – Henning Kuich and Derick Wood played tough for the UVA-Wise men’s tennis team but was not enough as the defending Appalachian Athletic Conference champions Virginia Intermont won 7-2.
The Highland Cavaliers’ duo of Kuich and Wood claimed a tight 8-6 win in the top doubles match. Kuich was solid in singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the top individual bout over the Cobras’ Milan Kosicky.
Wood took Jonathan Berhane the distance in the second singles match. He won the first set, 6-2, before losing the second set, 6-7 (0-4). Berhane was able to prevail in the deciding third set, 10-5, for the win. The Cobras (5-3/3-0 AAC) won the remaining single matches in straight sets over the UVA-Wise (1-6/0-3 AAC) lineup.
UVA-Wise will stay at home and host Pikeville College in a 5:00 p.m. affair on Thursday evening.
