UVa-Wise’s Wood and Bareford Lead Men’s Tennis over E&H

Emory, Va. – UVa-Wise senior Derrick Wood and sophomore Robert Bareford lead the men’s tennis squad to a convincing win, 7-2, at Emory & Henry College on Wednesday.

Wood had to work hard for his second singles win as he defeated Dan Mansmann both set scores of 7-5 and 7-5. Bareford had a little easier time for the Cavs (2-5) at third singles taking the match, 6-4 and 6-2.

Both UVa-Wise players also helped post doubles wins. Wood and Caleb Crowder won the top doubles, 8-3, while Bareford and Aaron McMahon edged out the third doubles match, 8-6.

Henning Kuich was the third Cavs player for a double win day with the top singles and second doubles victories.

UVa-Wise will next host Covenant College in an 11:00 a.m. Saturday match.
