Wise, Va. – Late yesterday afternoon, J.J. Kelly’s Whitney Bolling became a future UVa-Wise women’s tennis player by signing her letter of intent for the 2008-09 season.
Bolling will join a Lady Cavaliers team which has qualified for the past four NAIA Region XII and won the 2006 Appalachian Athletic Conference title. UVa-Wise will open its 2008 season on Saturday morning by hosting Lincoln Memorial at 11:00 a.m.
The senior transferred this academic year to J.J. Kelly after posting an impressive tennis resume the past three seasons at nearby Pound High School.
Over the past three seasons, Bolling has received All-Lonesome Pine District first team status. She helped Pound to three-straight LPD and Region D runner-up places. Whitney was also part of the 2006 Region D doubles runner-up duo. She has earned academic All-LPD acclaim each year scholastically.
Last fall, Bolling helped the J.J. Kelly volleyball team capture the 2007 LPD title and has been a four-year letterwinner in the sport.
Bolling has tennis success in her family. Her father Norman was part of Pound High School’s 1978 Virginia Boys’ Tennis State Championship team.
Whitney is the daughter of Norman and Sandra Bolling and plans to major in education upon reaching the Wise campus.
