Gate City, Va. – After losing one sister to early graduation last spring, the UVa-Wise women’s tennis team signed the second Fritz sister, Annie, to a letter of intent on Thursday morning at Gate City High School.
Annie will follow her older sister, Audra, who played the past three years for the Lady Cavs but graduated a year early, to the Wise campus starting in 2008-09.
UVa-Wise head coach Danny Rowland has guided the women’s program to a combined 28-10 record and NAIA Region XII appearances over the past two years. The Lady Cavs captured the 2006 Appalachian Athletic Conference crown and finished 15-5. Last season, UVa-Wise had another solid 13-5 year before falling in the AAC title match.
Fritz has been part of the past three Gate City girl’s tennis Virginia state championship teams. In the spring of 2007, Annie was a member of the doubles team that clinched the state championship for the Lady Blue Devils.
The future chemistry major at UVa-Wise is the daughter of Dennis and Alice Fritz. Annie is an honor roll and honor society member as well as part of the FCCLA. She enjoys being part of FAC and the First Baptist Church youth group of Gate City while taken part of mission trips to both Alabama and New Orleans, La.
The 2008 Lady Cavs tennis season starts February 23rd at home against Lincoln Memorial at 11:00 a.m.
