Lady Cavs Lose Close Women’s Tennis Opener to Lady Lions

Wise, Va. – Kelsey Adkins prevailed in a close singles match while Autumn Lauzon and Beth Dye teamed for a close doubles win but was not enough to take the Lady Cavaliers over the Lady Lions Monday afternoon. Mars Hill College won the match, 5-4, on the strength of four singles victories.

Adkins won the third singles match over Kim Blythe by scores of 7-5 and 6-3. Her singles win was the only other victory than Kyndall Winninger’s win by default.

The Lady Cavs (0-1) carried a 2-1 lead after the doubles play as Lauzon and Dye edged Blythe and Paola Jimenez of Mars Hill, 9-7. Adkins and Carrie Howard won by default at the third doubles.

UVa-Wise will face its second NCAA Division II foe in a row when it plays at Tusculum College Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m.
