Lady Cavs Split Opening Tourney at Mountain State

BECKLEY, WV -­ The youthful Lady Cavs earned a split of two contests to open the 2005 season at the Mountain State Tournament. UVa-Wise opened the day with a 3-1 victory over Carlow College by scores of 31-29, 25-30, 30-18, 30-19. Host Mountain State gave the Lady Cavs their first defeat, 3-1 (26-30, 27-30, 30-19, 26-30) in the second match.

In the opener, Davina Dishner had a solid game at setter. Dishner handed out 43 assists, lined three aces, dug 12 balls and finished with six kills. The frontline of Kate Daub, Kristen Salyer and Stacey Ringhoffer posted 17, 14 and nine kills. Libero Cara Hamilton had 22 digs and three aces.

Against Mountain State, Dishner improved to 51 assists, three aces, nine digs and three kills. Daub led with 11 kills and four aces while Ringhoffer hit six kills and five blocks. Tasha Viers added nine kills and three blocks while Hamilton dug 18 balls and Brittney Lawson had 13 digs.

UVa-Wise will open the home season on Tuesday when they host Pikeville College starting at 6:30 p.m.
