Lady Cavs Stun AAC Leading Brevard

October 25, 2005

Wise, VA – In a battle of two of the NAIA Region 12's best women’s volleyball teams, the University of Virginia’s College at Wise stunned the Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Brevard College. The Lady Cavs ran out to a two game lead with 34-32 and 30-24 scores before the Tornados rallied to even the games 20-30, 27-30. UVa-Wise completed the upset by winning the deciding fifth game 15-12.

The Lady Cavs improve to 16-7 on the campaign and 13-5 in the conference. Brevard drops to 17-3 and 14-2 in the league.

The opening game set the tone for the night. In a game that could have been disheartening to the home team, UVa-Wise hung tough to take away a key 34-32 tally. The Lady Cavs kept the momentum going to take the second affair 30-24.

Brevard showed its experience to rebound for a 30-20 win to fend off being swept. After UVa-Wise went out to a lead of 13-6, Brevard chipped away before sealing a tie match with a 30-27 victory.

The night belonged to the Lady Cavs. In the fifth match, UVa-Wise proved to have enough fire power for a 15-12 score and win.

Tasha Viers downed 17 kills, dug 15 balls and blocked three attempts. Kate Daub hit 22 kills while Davina Dishner handed out 36 assists and posted 12 digs. Cara Hamilton led the defense with 22 digs. Krista Shelton added 22 assists and 16 digs while Stacey Ringhoffer had six blocks. Whittney Lane chipped in nine kills.

The Lady Cavs return to action on Thursday night at Union College.
