Lady Cavs Triumph over Mountain State

Wise, VA – After seeing the team’s three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference win streak come to an end Tuesday, the University of Virginia’s College at Wise women’s volleyball team bounced back at home over Mountain State, 3-0. The Lady Cavs triumphed over the Lady Cougars with games of 30-25, 30-22, 30-27.
UVa-Wise takes its mark to 6-3 on the year and repaid an opening day defeat, 3-1, at Mountain State (10-5) on August 27 th.
During the first game, the Lady Cavs were dominate with a score of 30-25. The second game was tight before UVa-Wise was able to pull ahead to take the contest 30-22.
The final game saw Mountain State able to put together an early lead. The game was highlighted with solid defensive play but the Lady Cavs came back to tie the score and outlast the Lady Cougars, 30-27.
“This was a big win for us,” said Lady Cav head coach Kim Moore. “We are finally beginning to put things together and I can tell that the girls know what it means to be a team.”
Stacey Ringhoffer ( Richlands, VA) led the UVa-Wise frontline with 15 kills and three blocks while Tasha Viers posted 10 kills and blocked six spikes. Setter Davina Dishner handed out 36 assists and the defense was paced by Cara Hamilton and Britney Lawson with 22 and 11 digs.
UVa-Wise will now be off for a week before hosting Bryan College on Friday, September 23 rd starting at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Cavs will make a weekend at home with a 10:30 a.m. match against Tennessee Wesleyan and a 4:00 p.m. bout with Covenant College.
