Lookout Mountain GA & Athens, TN – The UVA-Wise women’s volleyball team earned a split of two Appalachian Athletic Conference matches Saturday afternoon. Covenant College claimed a 3-1 victory in the morning match before UVA-Wise swept past Tennessee Wesleyan in the afternoon.
The Lady Cavs saw their season mark go to 8-13 and 4-9 in the AAC. Covenant is 7-17 and Tennessee Wesleyan is now 8-11.
Against Covenant, the visitors dropped the first game, 18-30, before tying up the match with a 30-26 win in the second contest. The Lady Scots bounced back to take the next two games by the same 25-30 scores.
Tasha Viers pounded 17 kills and blocked six attempts. Kate Daub added 11 kills and 13 digs while Kristen Salyer contributed 11 kills, a pair of aces and 12 digs. Stacey Ringhoffer had six blocks and nine kills and Britney Lawson 14 digs. Cara Hamilton and Leeza Dos Santos split the setting duties with 22 and 18 assists.
UVA-Wise had more success in the afternoon. The Lady Cavs took care of the Lady Bulldogs in three games with scores of 30-21, 30-27 and 30-28. Salyer and Emily Helms paced the attack with 12 kills apice. Helms hit .571 while Salyer lined five aces. Daub chipped in nine kills and nin digs. Hamilton handed out 36 assists while Lawson dug 11 balls and Dos Santos hit three aces.
The Lady Cavs will return to Greear Gym for a 6:30 p.m. match Tuesday night against Milligan College.
