Match Stats

Beckley, WV– The University of Virginia's College at Wise started off hot but cooled off quickly to drop the women's volleyball season opener on the road. The Lady Cavs grabbed the opening game, 30-20, before the Lady Cougars took the next three games, 34-36, 25-30 and 22-30.

The defeat spoiled new head coach Steve Dallman's debut as UVa-Wise head coach. The team drops to 0-1 while Mountain State is 1-0.

Junior Natasha Viers paced the frontline with 25 kills, hit .405, blocked 12 attempts and dug seven balls. Kate Daub added 11 kills and had eight digs. Freshman Emily Helms produced nine kills and five digs in her first collegiate contest. Setter Davina Dishner accounted for 49 assists, 13 digs and four block assists while Britney Lawson led the defense with 17 digs.

The Lady Cavs will continue on the road with a 6:30 p.m. match at Pikeville College. UVa-Wise opens its home docket next Tuesday, September 5th for a 6:30 p.m. match against Emory & Henry College.
