Viers Pounds UVA-Wise Past Union

Wise, VA -- Tasha Viers pounded 29 kills to take UVA-Wise past Union College Thursday night in a Appalachian Athletic Conference women's volleyball match. The junior helped the Lady Cavs defeat the Lady Bulldogs, 3-1 by scores of 30-17, 27-30, 30-36 and 30-21.

UVA-Wise improved to 5-8 on the season and 2-4 in the AAC. Union falls to 7-11 and 4-3 in the league.

Viers (Abingdon, VA) averaged 7.25 kills per game to lead the UVA-Wise charge. The middle blocker hit .683 on the night with 29 kills and one error in 41 total attack while lining three service aces, 11 digs and a block.

The Lady Cavs played the match with a depleted lineup due to a couple injuries and illnesses. Kate Daub (Williamsburg, VA) downed 16 kills, served four aces, dug 10 balls and blocked four shots. Kristen Salyer (Gate City, VA) chipped in seven kills while Leeza Dos Santos (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) handed out 51 assists, a career-high. Britney Lawson (Rye Cove, VA) recorded 14 digs to round out the individual performances.

UVA-Wise will now be off until next Tuesday, September 26th for a 6:30 p.m. match at Bluefield College.
