Lexington, VA -- After falling twice in the first night of the Washington & Lee Classic, the Lady Cav spikers split two matches on Saturday to finish the event. UVA-Wise took care of Southern Virginia, 3-0, before suffering the same fate, 3-0, at the hands of host Washington & Lee.
The Lady Cavs (3-5) opened the morning with a 30-24, 30-26 and 30-22 victory over Southern Virginia. Tasha Viers paced the attack where she hit .560 herself (14 kills and 0 errors in 25 attacks) as the team had 16 team blocks. Whittney Lane produced nine kills while Kate Daub had six kills, three aces and a block. Middle blocker Stacey Ringhoffer added 10 kills and five blocks. Emily Helms downed six kills and Kristen Salyer four to go with five blocks. Davina Dishner had a solid game with 43 assists, two aces and seven digs. Britney Lawson dug 10 balls and Cara Hamilton six.
The day's second match had an opposite effect. Washington & Lee took care of UVA-Wise in three games, 21-30, 15-30 and 9-30. Dishner and Leeza Dos Santos combined for 24 assists. Lane was tops in kills with five and Daub had six digs.
UVA-Wise will now be off until hosting Bryan College next Friday night, September 15th at 7:00 p.m.
