Half Lady Cavs’ Squad Makes AAC All-Academic Team

Wise, VA – The 2006 edition of the UVA-Wise women’s volleyball team has something to really be proud for the year. Half of the Lady Cavs’ team was announced to make the Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. The five UVA-Wise players are Kate Daub, Tasha Viers, Cara Hamilton, Leeza Dos Santos and Britney Lawson.
The quintet saw the team finish the year 11-17 in head coach Steve Dallman’s first year at the helm.
Viers was the Lady Cavs’ lone All-AAC honoree on the first team. She led the team with 327 kills, 3.94 kills per game and hit .313 to go with 24 aces, 178 digs and 65 blocks. The Abingdon, VA native is a health and physical education major.
Senior Daub completed a solid career. She was an all-region and all-conference player a year ago before downing 292 kills, second most, 27 aces, 198 digs and 38 blocks for the theater major from Williamsburg, VA.
Hamilton moved from defensive specialist to setter for the latter part of the season and produced solid numbers. The Gate City, VA posted 348 set assists while lining 29 service aces and 178 digs. The junior is a history major.
Dos Santos of Virginia Beach, VA split her time like Hamilton between defense and setting. The sophomore history major recorded 291 set assists, 141 digs and 27 aces.
Lawson, a sophomore mathematics major, was the team leader in digs (319 and 3.26 per game). The Rye Cove, VA native added 19 aces.
