Viers Repeats on AAC Volleyball First Team
Helms Named All-Freshman Squad

Wise, VA – The University of Virginia’s College at Wise’s Natasha Viers earned a repeat honor onto the Appalachian Athletic Conference women’s volleyball team over the weekend at the league championships. Freshman Emily Helms joined Viers with her own honor of AAC All-Freshman team.
The two Lady Cavs helped the team to an 11-17 mark and AAC tournament appearance where they fell to eventual runner-up Virginia Intermont in the opening round.
Viers, a junior from Abingdon, VA, became a two-time All-AAC First team honoree. The outside hitter was a NAIA Region XII and AAC first team member. Viers was selected NAIA Region XII and AAC Player of the Week two times for the 2006 season. She led the Lady Cavs with 327 kills, 3.94 kills per game and hit .313 for the season. The Abingdon High player added 65 blocks, 178 digs, 24 service aces and 12 set assists. She had three matches with over 20 kills with her best game of 29 kills and one error in 41 total attack for a .683 hitting percentage with 11 digs against Union College. Viers also had a top evening of 27 kills, hit .380, 24 digs and two aces versus Tennessee Wesleyan.
Helms was UVA-Wise’s top recruit this year and did not disappoint as a freshman. The Gate City, VA native produced a solid season with a team-best 38 service aces to highlight her statistics. The freshman added 187 kills, 1.99 kills per game, 125 digs and 53 blocks to round out her stat line.
