Rye Cove’s Berry Signs to Play Volleyball at UVA-Wise

Wise, VA – Rye Cove High School’s Maggie Berry has signed to become the first women’s volleyball recruit for The University of Virginia’s College at Wise head coach Steve Dallman. The Cumberland District Player of the Year will join bring her court talents to the Lady Cavs for the fall of 2007.

The traditionally strong Lady Cavs’ volleyball team suffered through an injury plaqued 11-17 campaign in Dallman’s first season at the helm in 2006.

Berry will come to UVA-Wise next fall after a highly decorated scholastic career. The 5-9 middle hitter was recently named the Cumberland District Player of the Year and All-District first team member. She spearheaded Rye Cove’s run to the Group A quarterfinals this season and was selected as the Region D Hitter of the Year. Along with her solid senior season, Berry earned All-Region D, All-Cumberland District and All-Southwest Virginia as a junior while voted All-Cumberland District two years ago.

Berry is the daughter of James and Tammy Berry of Clinchport, Virginia and intends on majoring in Education while attending UVA-Wise starting next year.
