January 18, 2007
Wise, VA – The inaugural women’s volleyball recruiting class of UVA-Wise head coach Steve Dallman continued with two more 2007 recruits. Dallman inked Lebanon High teammates Kaitlyn Collins and Rebecca Smith to letters of intent.
The Lady Pioneers’ duo will become the fourth and fifth members of the 2007 recruiting class for the Lady Cavaliers. UVA-Wise finished 11-17 last season in an injury plagued year with a young and upcoming team.
The duo helped Lebanon High to the Castlewood Classic title. The team was fourth in the Hogoheegee District last season and third in 2005.
Collins earned Castlewood Classic All-Tournament team honors. She was also selected as the New People’s Bank Player of the Week one time last November. The 5-10 middle hitter lettered two seasons for the Lady Pioneers. Kaitlyn is the daughter of Ben and Janet Collins of Cleveland, Va. and plans to major in Biology/Physical Therapy.
Smith produced a solid senior season of 136 kills, 205 digs and an 86% serving percentage. The three-year starter was named to the Castlewood Classic All-Tournament team the past three seasons. The 5-10 outside hitter/defensive specialist was picked to the All-County team and the New People’s Bank Player of the Week as a junior. Rebecca is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Smith of Lebanon, Va.
