Lookout Mtn., Ga. & Athens, Tenn. –The Lady Cavs swept a conference pair of women’s volleyball road contests Saturday. UVa-Wise defeated Covenant College, 3-2, in the morning before taking Tennessee Wesleyan, 3-1, in the afternoon bout.

The Lady Cavs are now 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Covenant is 4-5 for the year and 3-1 in the AAC while Tennessee Wesleyan moved to 2-6 and 1-4 in the league.

Against Covenant, UVa-Wise trailed 2-1 after three games, 31-33, 30-17 and 15-30. The Lady Cavs came back to win the fourth contest, 30-28, and pulled out the fifth, 15-8, for the win. Tasha Viers (Abingdon, Va.) pounded 23 kills and blocked 17 attempts. Maggie Berry ( Rye Cove, Va.) had a season-best 14 kills and eight blocks. Kristen Salyer (Hiltons, Va.) had a double-double of 14 digs and 13 kills. Britney Lawson (Rye Cove, Va.) dug 22 balls while Sam Puryea (Bristol, Tenn.) handed out 45 assists and dug 23 balls of her own.

In the second match, the Lady Cavs won the first two games, 30-25 and 30-21. The Lady Bulldogs prevailed 25-30 in the third game before the visitors took the fourth affair, 30-28, and the win. Viers lined 17 kills and Berry nine and seven blocks. Salyer had 12 kills, 15 digs and four blocks. Puryea produced 50 assists, 12 digs and four kills. Cara Hamilton (Gate City, Va.) dug 18 balls and Lawson 25. Kayla Dougherty (Nickelsville, Va.) had a season-high seven kills, hit .538 and dug five balls. Leeze Dos Santos (Va. Beach, Va.) added 10 digs and an ace.

UVa-Wise will return home to host Mountain State on Tuesday night starting at 7:00 p.m.
