UVa-Wise Comes Alive after First Game to Take Milligan

Johnson City, Tenn. – After dropping a close opening game, the UVa-Wise women’s volleyball team bounced back to sweep the next three contests to defeat Milligan College, 3-1, Thursday night.

The Lady Cavs fell 28-30 before taking the next games, 30-19, 30-19 and 30-27. UVa-Wise moved to 17-9 on the season and 11-3 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Lady Buffs dropped to 7-13 and 4-9 in the league.

The frontline combo of Tasha Viers and Kristen Salyer produced 38 kills, 27 digs, 11 blocks and five aces. Viers led the two with 24 kills, 10 digs, eight blocks and three aces while Salyer posted 14 kills, 17 digs, three blocks and a pair of aces.

Freshman Maggie Berry contributed 11 kills and six block assists. Sam Puryea handed out 51 assists to go with 13 digs, four aces, three blocks and three kills. Britney Lawson led the defense with 26 digs. Leeza Dos Santos added four digs and two aces and Whittney Lane had five block assists.

The Lady Cavs will have four days off before traveling to King College for a 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday night, October 23 rd.
