Montreat Upsets UVa-Wise Spikers

Montreat, NC – After suffering a tough defeat two nights ago, UVa-Wise fell victim to a women’s volleyball upset Thursday night at Montreat. The home team prevailed over the Lady Cavs, 3-1, by scores of 30-26, 22-30, 30-32 and 24-30.

Montreat claimed it fifth Appalachian Athletic Conference win to go to 5-11 and 12-17 overall. UVa-Wise dropped to 11-5 in the league and 17-11 on the year.

Tasha Viers downed 30 kills, blocked nine total attempts, dug five balls and served two aces. Maggie Berry posted 13 kills and seven total blocks. Kristen Salyer added 12 kills. Sam Puryea handed out 53 assists and dug 12 balls. Britney Lawson led the defense with 33 digs and lined two aces while Whittney Lane contributed nine kills, two digs and six block assists.

The Lady Cavs will now be off until playing at Bluefield next Thursday, November 1st for a 6:30 p.m. match.
