Union Bites UVa-Wise Volleyball

Barbourville, Ky. – A young team will have its off nights and Thursday night proved to be one of those for the UVa-Wise women’s volleyball team. Appalachian Athletic Conference leader Union College bit UVa-Wise in three-straight games, 15-30, 17-30 and 23-30.

The Lady Bulldogs posted their 11 th-straight victory to improve to 13-5 and a perfect 6-0 mark in the AAC. The Lady Cavs dropped to 10-8 on the season and ended its four-game win streak and went to 4-2 in the conference.

Freshman Maggie Berry had a solid outing with 10 kills, six blocks and three digs to pace the UVa-Wise lineup. Sam Puryea added 27 assists, six digs, three block assists and two kills. Tasha Viers contributed nine kills and Britney Lawson 14 digs. Cara Hamilton chipped in six digs.

UVa-Wise will be off now until next Tuesday, September 25 th when it hosts Bluefield College for a 6:30 p.m. match.
