Lady Cavs Comeback Past Lady Cobras in Volleyball

Bristol, Va. – The UVa-Wise women’s volleyball team remained a perfect 6-0 in five game matches on Thursday night. The Lady Cavs trailed by a game, 2-1, before evening the match and outlasting the Virginia Intermont Lady Cobras, 15-13, in the deciding fifth game.
UVa-Wise (13-8/7-2 Appalachian Athletic Conference) grabbed the first game, 30-19, before Virginia Intermont (6-17/3-6 AAC) took the next two games, 30-28 and 30-21. The Lady Cavs forced the fifth contest by winning the fourth affair, 30-26.
Britney Lawson (Rye Cove, Va.), the NAIA national libero of the week, continued her top defense with a career-best 40 digs. Tasha Viers (Abingdon, Va.) downed 28 kills with five digs, two blocks and an ace. Kristen Salyer (Hiltons, Va.) posted another double-double with 17 digs and 14 kills to go with a pair of aces and blocks. Cara Hamilton (Gate City, Va.) dug 18 balls while Sam Puryea (Bristol, Tenn.) had 54 assists, 11 digs and three kills.
The Lady Cavs will now be off until hosting four AAC matches next week starting with a Tuesday home affair with Union College at 6:30 p.m.
