Lawson Hits Century Dig Mark, Lady Cavs Sweep

Wise, Va. – Britney Lawson hit the career century dig mark as the UVa-Wise women’s volleyball team swept past Bluefield College in three games. Lawson produced her fourth 30-dig match with 34 as the Lady Cavs took the three games with scores of 30-22, 30-26 and 30-23.
UVa-Wise equaled its win total from a year ago with its 11 th victory and 11-8 mark. The squad took its Appalachian Athletic Conference record to 5-2 while Bluefield dropped to 6-10 and 1-8 in the league.
Lawson, a junior from Rye Cove, Va., dug 34 balls and lined an ace to pace the Lady Cavs’ defense. Tasha Viers (Abingdon, Va.) and Kristen Salyer (Hiltons, Va.) pounded 15 kills apiece to lead the frontline. Salyer added 15 digs and Viers four blocks. Maggie Berry ( Clinchport, Va.) and Whittney Lane (Norton, Va.) chipped in nine and eight kills. Sam Puryea (Bristol, Tenn.) handed out 47 set assists, dug seven balls and dinked three kills.
The Lady Cavs return to action at home Thursday night against Montreat College starting at 6:30 p.m.
