#2 Cal Baptist Overtakes UVa-Wise at NAIA Volleyball Nationals

Columbia, Mo. – After seeing the pool pairings, UVa-Wise knew its first match at the NAIA women’s volleyball nationals would be its toughest. Second-ranked California Baptist showed its talent in the first two matches, 10-30 and 12-30. UVa-Wise was able to get it legs in game three but fell just short, 28-30, for the three game defeat.
The Lady Cavs (25-14) received six kills from Kristen Salyer (Hiltons, Va.) and five kills from Natasha Viers (Abingdon, Va.). Whittney Lane (Norton, Va.) and Maggie Berry (Clinchport, Va.) added four kills apiece. Britney Lawson dug 15 balls and Leeza Dos Santos 10 digs. Sam Puryea (Bristol, Tenn.) handed out 11 assists against the Lancers (28-4).
UVa-Wise will now wait until 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning for its second match in Pool B against eighth-ranked Lewis-Clark (ID). The Lady Cavs finish the three-game pool play with a 4:45 p.m. match versus Texas-Brownsville tomorrow.
