Chowan Handles UVa-Wise Spikers

Emory, VA – After breezing to an earlier victory, the UVa-Wise volleyball team could not duplicate the result in the second match of the Emory & Henry Tournament. Chowan College Lady Braves took a marathon first game, 35-33, before losing the second, 24-30, and taking the final two contests, 30-25 and 30-21, for the 3-1 win the Lady Cavs.

The Lady Cavs will next face Randolph College for an 11:00 a.m. bout before playing in a final match at either 3:30 or 5:45 against a to be determined opponent.

Britney Lawson paced the UVa-Wise (2-3) defense with 26 digs and an ace. Sam Puryea handed out 38 assists and downed three kills. On the frontline, Tasha Viers belted 18 kills and two blocks while Kristen Salyer added 11 kills, 15 digs and two blocks. Ruth Hoover chipped in four kills and 10 digs in the match.
