UVa-Wise Blanks Ind-Southeast, Advances in Volleyball Regional

Bristol, Tenn. – UVa-Wise did not play pretty but was enough to blank Indiana-Southeast, 3-0, in the first round of the NAIA Region XII women’s volleyball playoffs on Friday afternoon. The Lady Cavs received 17 kills by Tasha Viers to overtake the Grenadiers, 30-23, 30-26 and 30-27.
UVa-Wise (23-13) will move onto the semifinals against host and top seeded King College in a 10:00 a.m. match on Saturday morning. Union College made it an all Appalachian Athletic Conference final when it defeated Mountain State (WV) by a 3-1 tally in the second match. Union will now face second seed Bryan College in a 12:00 p.m. match.
Viers added three aces and six blocks to go with the 17 kills against Indiana-Southeast (18-22). Kristen Salyer added 12 kills and 21 digs. Britney Lawson dug 24 balls while Sam Puryea handed out 39 assists and dug 14 attempts of her own.
