September 6, 2007
Match Stats

Wise, Va. – For the second time in three days, Natasha Viers powered UVa-Wise past an archrival with King College Thursday night’s volleyball victim. Viers pounded 31 kills to take the Lady Cavs to an upset victory over the Lady Tornados, 3-2 by scores of 30-28, 30-21, 29-31, 22-30 and 15-7 for the second five game Appalachian Athletic Conference win of the week.

Viers (Abingdon, Va.) lined 31 kills on Tuesday night’s win over Milligan and equaled that career-best total vs. King (2-2/2-1 AAC). The performance pushed here over 1,000 career kills to 1,005. She hit .436 on the night with seven digs and seven blocks.

Viers was just one of a group of Lady Cavs (5-4/2-0 AAC) to have outstanding efforts. Junior outside hitter Kristen Salyer (Gate City, Va.) had a double double with 17 kills and 15 digs. Britney Lawson (Rye Cove, Va.) had her second 30-dig performance in two weeks with a new career-best 39 digs. Maggie Berry (Clinchport, Va.) had her best collegiate night of her first year with 10 kills and five blocks.

Setter Sam Puryea (Bristol, Tenn.) handed out a season-high 63 assists to go with nine digs and five kills. Leeza Dos Santos (Va. Beach, Va.) chipped in 10 digs and three aces while Cara Hamilton (Gate City, Va.) dug seven balls and served two aces. Senior right side Whittney Lane (Norton, Va.) rounded out the effort with eight kills and six blocks.

UVa-Wise will not have any time to rest and enjoy the huge victory as it will play at the Washington & Lee Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
